LIBRARY

GOALS
  1. To provide library materials and services responsive to the needs of the USANT community and ensures their maximum accessibility and expeditious resources.
  2. To provide comfortable, convenient, safe, accessible and well-maintained building and facilities which enhance the use of the library’s resources.
  3. To develop and maintain an effective and committed staff to the provision of quality service.
  4. To facilitate easy access to library collections and services and improve the efficiency of library operations through the application of automated systems.

 

OBJECTIVES

The University library is an integral part of the educational program of the University. Its basic objective is to aid the institution in carrying out its program in order to provide quality education. The measure of its excellence is the extent to which its resources and services support the institution’s objective by acquiring and making available books, periodicals, and services needed in the institutional program. To accomplish the task, the following objectives are adopted:

  1. To select, acquire, organize and provide library materials that will enrich and support the curriculum and personal needs of the users/clientele, taking into consideration their varied interests, abilities, and learning styles.
  2. To provide library materials that will stimulate growth in factual knowledge, literary appreciation, aesthetic values, and ethical standards.
  3. To teach formally the use of books and other sources of information.
  4. To provide background information which will enable students to make intelligent judgments on their daily lives.
  5. To coordinate with the faculty and supply their needs for instructional materials.
  6. To place principle above personal opinion and reason above prejudice in the selection of materials of the highest quality in order to assure a comprehensive library collection appropriate for users/customers.
  7. To supply essential information to the library’s clientele.

 

SELECTION POLICIES

The selection of the library materials is participated by the administrators, faculty and the librarians through the library committee which composed of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) and the head of committee, Principals (Grade School, Junior High School, Senior High School), Deans of Colleges/ Departments and student council representative as members and the college librarian as secretary.

The library committee assists the college librarian in establishing broad and general policies. The group function is an advisory capacity with other administrative officials.

The final responsibility of selection, acquisition, collection and evaluation of library materials rests with the University Librarian.

 

ACQUISITION POLICY

The library continuously and systematically acquires and maintain a core collection and provides printed and electronic resources access to database and other information primarily for students and faculty to meet their library needs.

It is the policy of the University to develop, maintain and continually improve its library resources that are relevant and adequate in terms of quality and quantity, helpful in serving the needs of scholarships, research and progressively developing and growing in accordance with the institutional development plans.

 

CIRCULATION POLICY

The library user must present a valid library card for Grade School, Junior High School, Senior High School and mini-handbook for Graduate and College students to access the library materials. Loss of library cards are non-transferrable.

 

PRESERVATION AND CONSERVATION POLICY

Every summer break, inspection of torn-out and damaged library materials is done. Those identified are evaluated for treatment, cleaning, necessary repairs and rebinding to prolong the useful life or the collection.

 

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY
  1. Check the listing of books to be requested.
  2. Refer to the catalog list given by book dealers.
  3. Coordinate with the department principals, Deans, and faculty committee on selection and requisition of books to be requested for purchase.
  4. In requesting for reference books, the following are considered:
    1. Course offered
    2. Number of enrollment/population of its course and department
    3. Recency of edition and copyright

 

LENDING PRIVILEGES

University of Saint Anthony faculty and staff can borrow two (2) books:

(1) Filipiniana and one (1) circulation for a period of one (1) week only while the students can borrow two (2) books, one (1) Filipiniana and one (1) circulation for three (3) days. A week before the final examination, borrowing of books is suspended / cancelled. General reference collection, theses, dissertation and periodicals are to be used inside the library only, However the circulation books maybe borrowed and subject renewal depending upon the number of copies available at the time they are borrowed.

Two (2) books can be loaned out for a day with from the circulation excluding holiday and Sunday. Filipiniana collection can be loaned for a day one (1) at a time excluding holiday and Sunday. Borrower/s are allowed to photocopy the selected topic or chapter of the borrowed book. Lost book must be replaced with the same author, title and edition, binding and copyright date on if not possible, full payment of the same plus fine from the time the book is lost shall be made at cashier’s office.

A borrower shall be fine of one (1) peso per hour for reserved book and nine (9) pesos per day for circulation for overdue or failure to return borrowed books on due date indicated.

 

POLICY ON OUTSIDE RESEARCHERS

Outside researchers (Alumni, former faculty members and students honorably discharged from the College, Graduate students from the other school, Government and private researchers) can access the library materials for a fee of P52.00 per day and upon presentation of valid I.D. and a referral letter signed by their librarian. They shall by the rules and regulation of the library.

Laptops are permitted but strictly no charging. When listening and watching videos that are related with their academic researches, headphones should be worn.

 

COMPOSITION OF LIBRARY COMMITTEE

The Library Committee

  1. Composition: It shall be composed of the VPAA, Deans, faculty members, student representatives of the various colleges, and Chief Librarian/University Librarian.

    The library committee assists the University Librarian in establishing broad general policies. This group functions in an advisory capacity with administrative duties or powers and also acts as a liaison between the library and other administrative officials. Meetings may be called at the request of the University Librarian to solve current problems affecting the library.

  2. Term of Office: The Chairman and Secretary shall serve for the duration of their term of office as officials of the university; the other members shall serve for a term of one (1) year, which is renewable.

  3. Functions and Duties:

    1. To review annually the status of the library and the statistics on the number of volumes, circulation, and expenditures for the improvement of the operation of the library.
    2. To consider matters concerning the library and report to the faculty anything which should receive the attention of the faculty.

 

RULES AND REGULATIONS
  1. Students should be in proper uniform with I.D. when entering the library.
  2. Students shall present their library card for Grade School, Junior High School, and Senior High Students with a picture.
  3. General References such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, almanacs, atlases, and instructional materials shall be read only inside the library.
  4. Thesis and Dissertations should be read inside the library.
  5. Reserve books for overnight use may be borrowed at 4:00 P.M. and returned at 9:00 A.M. the following day. Failure to return them on time will result in a fine of Php 1.00 per hour.
  6. Fiction books/Circulation books may be borrowed for a period of three (3) days. Failure to return them on time will result in a fine of Php 9.00 per day.
  7. The borrower shall be responsible for the loaned book. In case of loss or damage, they shall be required either to pay or replace it with the same title upon arrangement with the librarian.
  8. Stealing or willfully destroying, cutting, tearing, or in any way damaging the books, pamphlets, periodicals, or any part thereof shall be subject to serious disciplinary action.
  9. Silence shall be maintained in the library. Failure to observe this rule shall be subject to serious disciplinary action.
  10. Faculty members shall be the ones to borrow reference books for their use.

 

LIBRARY COMPOSITION
  1. UNIVERSITY Library

    The University Library houses various reference materials that support the instruction, research, and curriculum requirements for all academic programs offered by the University.

  2. Graduate School Library

    This contains a varied collection for graduate students containing the major research collection to meet the information needs of the graduate students and faculty. It is also open to undergraduate students.

  3. Audio-Visual Room

    This section is responsible for providing a full range of media resources, equipment, and services staffed to assist students and instructors in utilizing its collection and supervised by the audio-visual librarian staff.

  4. Junior High School Library

    The library for Junior High School is separated from the main library. It has a collection that caters to the needs of the Junior High School students.

  5. Senior High School Library

    The library of Senior High School provides a variety of educational resources for Grade 11 and 12 students.

  6. Grade School Library

    The library of Grade School has a varied collection of different sections that can cater to the reading and research needs of Grade School students.
